Plans to install 'smart meters' in millions of homes to help people cut their gas and electricity usage will be unveiled later. The meters are designed to allow householders to monitor how much energy they are using.

People will be charged according to exactly how much energy they have used and bill estimates and meter readings will become a thing of the past.
The Government wants to have 47 million of the meters fitted in 26 million homes by 2020.
