Almost half of price comparison site customers are more confident using aggregators then they were a year ago, new research has shown.

The findings, which come as part of YouGov's quarterly survey of comparison site users, also found that as well as 47% being more confident, a further 46% felt they could make financial decisions independently, without advice.

Commenting on the findings, Todd Davis, director of financial services consulting for YouGov said: "This confidence and control appears to have produced an increasingly demanding consumer. The financial services sector is one which consumers historically have been hesitant to embrace.

"However, thanks to the rise of comparison sites, consumers now have access to a wide array of information and are thus becoming both increasingly knowledgeable and increasingly demanding of their financial products."

The research also found that 69% favoured the use of comparison sites because of the products and companies on offer, with 87% revealing that aggregators made research easier.

Comparison sites are the most popular channel for researching car insurance (79%), buildings or contents insurance (72%), motorcycle insurance (59%), and van insurance (58%).
