You might be paying too much for your hotel room! We all want to travel in style without putting ourselves in debt.

CompareSavvy.com gives away a few tricks.

Introduction

Depending where you find your hotel room, the rate for a hotel room can differ wildly. As a savvy traveller, your job is to find the best possible room at the cheapest possible price. If you go into this process blind, you might end up paying too much. CompareSavvy.com is giving away some suggestions on how you can use the awesome, unharnessed power of the Internet to find the room for your dreams. Finding that hotel away from home shouldn’t be difficult or a serious drain on your budget. From adventure lodges to hostels to top end hotels, we give you the best ways to find online hotel rooms for the lowest possible price.

Step 1: Where to stay

First you need to decide in which hotel you want to stay by reading reviews other traveller's experiences. There are a few good comparison websites which show you ratings from other travellers. Remember to always read the most negative reviews. Some of these reviews might be from "over-the-top" complainers, but if you can distinct them from the genuine ones it will give you a good idea of what to expect.

For example look out for complaints as noisy rooms, hotel rooms without air co, dated rooms, bad service, terrible views..... At least, after deciding the hotel, it gives you the opportunity to make requests during the booking to avoid any disappointments. So don't just rely on 'star' ratings. Look also at the facilities the hotel has and rank hotels based on the facilities' importance to you.

Sometimes adding a weekend night will lower the rate for all of the other nights of your stay. If you want a cheap hotel at the weekend, look at hotels in or near business districts. Business people only want hotels during the week. These hotels are usually of a 'superior' standard but, in order to attract weekend custom, they offer excellent weekend deals. Many travellers are prepared paying a little extra to be nearer the centre of town, or your preferred attraction.

Step 2: Compare prices

As with most things on the web, our first piece of advice is to shop around. There are 2 ways to book your room - through the hotel directly or through a booking site.

Start with the direct approach and look for the rates on the hotel's own website. This gives you a benchmark rate which you would like to beat when you go shopping around.

Than try a few good hotel booking websites. The best hotel booking sites negotiate discounted rates based on volume so it's usually cheaper to buy through them. Usually, but not always!  They know exactly how many rooms in each hotel they sell each month. By buying-in rooms far in advance they can negotiate better rates and pass these on to their visitors.

A few recommended booking sites:
Expedia.co.uk - the UK's biggest online travel booking website should always be included in your search for the cheapest rate. Their prices are very competitive and, if you book combi's with for example hotel and flight together,  the whole thing can work out 15 - 30% cheaper than booking your trip separately with a discount airliner and a cheap or direct hotel website.

Lastminute.com - if you are travelling to a well known destination, such as London or New York, always try to include Lastminute.com within your hotel search. It is regular place for bargains and great offers.

LateRooms.com offers a unique vehicle through which hotels across the globe can sell their empty rooms. In order to ensure rooms are filled, hotels are willing to drop their prices - they are responsible for uploading their rates, availability and information.

Step 3: Leave Feedback

Where ever you have booked – always leave feedback after your holiday. The reviews on the internet where useful to you so it will be useful to other future travellers to determine the right place to stay.
