Water Comparison
On average each person in the UK currently uses about 150 litres of water every day and much of this is wasted. Unfortunately, at present, it is not possible to switch your water suppliers. Unlike with gas and electricity suppliers, you can't just switch your water supplier due to the fixed structure of the water supplying industry. The water supplying industry is however regulated by Ofwat, they put a limit on price rises and gives water companies incentives to deliver service improvements. This does not mean that you can't save on your water bill.
The first step to lower water bills is getting a water meter installed. Many houses already have a water meter installed, especially if your property has been build after 2000 the chances are, thatyou are already on the meter. If your property doesn't have a meter yet, ask you water supplier to install one for you. Most households in England and Wales are entitled to a free meter from their water supplier.

Only in rare occassions when installing a water meter is unreasonably impractical or too expensive to do so, can a water company refuse to install a meter. Switching to a water meter is also without risk. If you find that you are paying more afterfitting of your water meter than before you can opt to be charged again at the un-metered rates if you apply to do so within 12 months of installing your water meter. If you have moved into a property with a water meter already installed you don't have a choice but to be charged at the metered system. To find out if you are being charged according to meter readings or not, have a look at your latest water bill. If you are being charged for XXX cubic meters(m3) than you have a meter in your property and you are being charged accordingly. If you water bill refers to the rateable value (RV) of your home than you are not being charged acording to the metered system.
According to calculations of Ofwat a typical customer who switches to a water meter can save 5 to 10% on their bill after installation of the water meter. Here are our hot tip so you can save money on your water bill as well.
